Thank you to all who attended the third Akron Innerbelt Open House on June 12 at Lock 3 Park where we previewed “Initial Directions” for the future of the Innerbelt and surrounding neighborhoods.
The goal of the Open House was to:
Bring emerging planning and design concepts to the community through 5 key initial strategies
Get direction for design refinement and project prioritization
Host “Site Walks” of the planning area to exchange ideas and learnings between the planning team and community members
Co-design key corridors and areas of Akron with planners, designers, and community members alike
During the Open House, our community coordinators, planning team and city representatives dove into our current strategies for the Innerbelt, facilitated discussions about possibilities for the former Innerbelt land, and explored how actions in the surrounding neighborhoods would be great first steps for long term success. Understanding how the planning process incorporates not only the former Innerbelt land, but also the neighborhoods that were directly impacted by urban renewal is a key element of these strategies.
